✂️ Pruning: As the first dwarf Calendula, the Fiesta Gitana does not need too much care to be prolific, and the roots often adapt to the space provided. However, we recommend checking the roots monthly and trimming any that are brown or extending past the yPod. To keep the plant bushy, neat, and within the right height for your Gardyn, it is important to occasionally pinch off the tops of the developing stalks. To encourage new flower bud development, remove dead flower heads (a.k.a. deadheading). When deadheading, also trim back the stem that remains on the plant so that the stem does not begin to rot.
🔎 Plant Health: Aphids and whiteflies are common pests, but you can use our prevention and treatment tricks to keep pests at bay!
🌻 Harvest: When harvesting Fiesta Gitana for fresh cut flowers, cut the long stems and put them in water immediately. You should also harvest the blossoms when they are half-open for more brilliant bloom. Once the petals begin to wither, they and are past their prime medicinally. For a culinary use, cut the head of the flowers and spread the petals out to dry completely. The dried petals can be used to replace saffron, as a garnish, or in medicinal uses.
Native to Europe, Fiesta Gitana flowers have been widely popular in traditional use in the Middle East, Greece, and India. Fiesta Gitana’s flowers are widely appreciated for their beauty and medicinal qualities.
Fiesta Gitana is a dwarf type of calendula flower. It can grow up to 12-14 inches tall. The quick blooming, semi-double flowers range in color from deep orange to pastel cream. Not only are they beautiful, but Fiesta Gitana also has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties.
Fiesta Gitana’s petals are edible. You can sprinkle them over salads or add them to your favorite drinks to add a splash of color and tangy sweet taste. Fiesta Gitana also has many cosmetic and medicinal uses. The petals can be used to make a natural dye and colorant, and like Arnica or St. John’s Wort, it’s a must-have in your first-aid kit!
