  • Automation: Our Gardyn assistant Kelby fully manages and optimizes the care of your plants through the Gardyn app to fit your needs and to provide you with tips and ideas.
  • 10 yCubes per month: Every month, you can order up to ten items from your application, an item being any plant (yCube) you want or a package of plant food. They will be delivered to your door free of any shipping cost. Obviously, you can buy more if you’d like. The monthly shipment schedule is to simply reduce the environmental impact of transportation by regrouping your order into one shipment a month.

Each Gardyn Home comes with a free 30-days trial period on us which includes the full support of Kelby, your virtual assistant. This means that whatever membership option you selected at purchase, we take on us to provide you the assistance you need to start and learn how to use your Gardyn Home.

The membership itself starts when you activate it through your application. 

If you have purchased a prepaid 1-year or 2-year membership with your Gardyn Home, the activation code of your membership is your order number, starting with a D that you can find on your order receipt. If you did not purchase a prepaid membership, you are by default in the optional month-to-month membership. If you want to continue enjoying Kelby’s help and to get our Members’ benefits, you can select your membership plan through your application. Yes, if you signed up for a non-commitment month-to-month membership, you can pause or cancel your membership any time and will no longer be charged starting the first day of the following month.

Two points to keep in mind: you will no longer have Kelby taking care of your Gardyn for you and you will not receive any more plants (yCubes) on a monthly basis. You can restart your membership later on but a restart fee may apply.

If you signed up for a 1-year or 2-year membership, you can cancel your membership when the committed period is over.

No, once you have enrolled in a month-to-month membership, , we process your membership every month on the anniversary date of the activation. If you wish to not purchase a membership for that month, you just need to cancel the membership in order to not be charged during that period.

Shipping

It depends on your location. Most shipments in contiguous United States take between 7 and 15 business days.

Gardyn Home comes in two boxes: one for the lights (48in x 5in x 3in) and one for the remainder of your Gardyn (30in x 25in x 16in).

Yes, absolutely. That’s a marvelous present! Just enter your friend’s address as the shipping address. When your friend gets their Gardyn, they will be able to create an account from the Gardyn App and get the membership to keep receiving plants (yCubes).

  • Gardyn Inc. ships currently to addresses in the continental United States, Alaska & Hawaii.
  • Gardyn Home device will only be sent to valid street addresses; there is no delivery to P.O. Boxes or APO/FPO addresses. 
  • yCubes refills boxes, we do ship to P.O. boxes.  
  • Delivery to Alaska & Hawaii is available for an additional fee. 
  • Shipment to multiple locations from a single order is currently not available.
  • If the carrier cannot deliver the package and returns it to Gardyn, any additional cost for subsequent shipping attempts will be at the customer’s charge.

If FedEx is the carrier: 

You can use FedEx Delivery Manager (FDM)  to request delivery services like:

  • Schedule the delivery (available for residential addresses served by FedEx Express and FedEx Home Delivery)
  • Put your package on vacation hold
  • Hold your package at a FedEx location for pick up
  • Change the delivery address
  • To change your package’s delivery address, you can choose from 2 options:
    • Use your FDM account
    • Contact Gardyn support to request the change for you

If a delivery option isn’t available in FDM, this may be because of the status of the package. 

For example, if the shipment is already out for delivery, then the package isn’t available for a delivery appointment set up.




Installation

No! You just need to add water into the reservoir from time to time and your personal Gardyner Kelby will tell you when.

Gardyn can grow any where in your home as long as there is a power outlet and wi-fi network. It doesn’t even require a minimum amount of sunlight as two LED lights are included in your Gardyn. We recommend you choose a place that is temperate and dry (most rooms in your place should be) with limited temperature variation (65F-75F). The Gardyn Home is designed to be against or close to a wall as the light can be bright and should not be looked at directly.

The Gardyn Home can definitely fit in any home, regardless of size or square feet. It was designed to grow large quantities of food on a very small footprint: 2 feet wide by 1 foot deep. It is 5’4″ tall.

Gardyn only needs a 110V power outlet and Wi-Fi.

In addition to the Gardyn Home device, the box contains an assortment of 30+ plants (yCubes) and plant food so that you can start growing immediately. It also contains 6 caps (to close slots that are currently not growing any plants) and a raspberry-color sleeve to easily handle your plants for harvesting.

You can create a Gardyn account from the Gardyn App when or before you activate the device.

When you create your Gardyn account, we receive all the information we need to be able to ship your plants (yCubes) to you on a monthly basis. This includes your credit card details to charge the membership. The 30 days after the activation are on us, so you have 30 days to enter your payment method. If you bought a 1-year or 2-year membership, you just need to enter your purchase confirmation number.

Gardyn App

The Gardyn App requires phone with operating systems iOS 10 or Android 4.1 and up.

The Gardyn app makes it possible for you to control your Gardyn from anywhere in the world and to get recommendations from Kelby, your personal AI Gardyning assistant. You can even view photos of your plants growing, the current temperature, humidity, water level, watering schedule and light intensity. Kelby optimizes this for you but you can also manage it manually if you wish.

We try to keep it to urgent notifications. All other recommendations by Kelby can be found in your smartphone Gardyn app. In your app settings, you can decide what kind of messages you want to receive and how/where.

Kelby is Gardyn’s artificial intelligence. She is your own private Gardener (Gardyner!). Kelby monitors all of the various parameters of your device, views the plants and optimizes plant growth to best address your needs. She also notifies you when it is time to add plant food, refill the water reservoir, harvest your plants and provides helpful tips and ideas to further enjoy your Gardyn and the food you are growing.

Plants

It depends on the plants. For instance, lettuce may take 3 weeks to grow to maturity once they have germinated. Most importantly, we provide advice to trim your plants so that they will regrow quicker, once the root system is in place. It makes a big difference!

Your plants will grow fast and you may be able to harvest the same plant several times. However after a period of time, certain varieties will not grow anymore or may start bolting (growing into flowers). You will then need to order new yCubes to replace them. Your Gardyn can grow 30 plants at the same time. If you eat on your plants for 3 to 4 months, you will need 7-10 yCubes a month. Your membership is meant for that!

It is going to keep growing nicely, hence no waste! Kelby (your private gardyner) will make sure the plants keeps growing healthily and may actually slow their growth if necessary to keep them fresh for longer. At some point though, some plants may become too big or bolt (grow into flowers). You may then want to replace them with new plants.

Yes! Thanks to its away mode, Kelby is going to take care of your plants even when you are away and make sure they look great when you come back. See conditions in terms of service here.

It depends on many parameters such as temperature, humidity, the overall growth of your plants, intensity of light, etc. Kelby monitors all these parameters for you and will notify you when you should think about adding water. Typically, in normal conditions, a full reservoir should be enough for several days up to a few weeks. If you are away, just let Kelby know and she’ll manage your Gardyn for you.

Just go to “Order” in the Gardyn App and order what you want. Kelby will also remind you when you should think about ordering new plants and will recommend some based on your preferences. You decide! This is included in your membership.

Through your app, you can order all the plants (yCubes) you want from our portfolio (or even seedless yCubes to grow your own). In order to reduce the environmental impact of transportation, your membership includes one shipment per month of 10 yCubes max. You can definitely buy more yCubes more often if you wish. You decide!

The plant food is purely mineral and provides the plants with all the nutrients they need, both macro and micro nutrients like nitrate, potassiun, phosphorus to name just a few.

You can grow many plants on your Gardyn: small ones if you want to use only one slot for each plant, or even pretty tall ones if you want them to develop and expand over you Gardyn. We are providing a portfolio of plants that our team keeps broadening. You can also order seedless yCubes and use your own seeds.

All the seeds we use at Gardyn are organic, non-GMO seeds sourced from small farms in the US. We put great care in selecting the best varieties that will grow well in your Gardyn and are extremely nutritious and tasty.

Yes. It has been especially engineered to generate no pollution: the medium the plant develops out of is made of mineral rock and the white plastic container is made of corn which is compostable in industrial composters. Just throw it away in your yard trash.

The yCubes are made of rockwool: it is an inert mineral, made out of basalt rock. It provides a perfect medium for the seed to germinate and develop its roots. The plastic around it is made of corn and is compostable in industrial composters (use your yard trash). No waste!

Using Gardyn Home

There are two cameras on your Gardyn. They are Kelby’s eyes. They make it possible for Kelby to identify which plants are growing on your Gardyn, how well they are doing and when they are going to be ready. The cameras are stationary and exclusively view the plants only. In your Gardyn app, you can view what the camera can see in case you have any doubt. See Gardyn privacy policy for more detail here.

Yes. In the Gardyn app settings, you are free to disable the cameras so they no longer take any photos. You can also re-enable the cameras whenever you want. Just be aware the cameras are Kelby’s eyes: no camera means Kelby will no longer be able to view your Gardyn and look after your plants to see how well they are doing. However, Kelby will still manage the light and water schedules like before.

Yes. Gardyn is designed to provide your plants with the light they need. You can adjust the schedule of the lights as well as their intensity to best fit your habits. Kelby will also tell you if there is enough light for your plants and can recommend more optimal light schedules to fit your needs.

Add one teaspoon of plant food for every two gallons of water. Do not put plant food in the tank the first time you activate your Gardyn.

Yes, absolutely. However you won’t have the support of Kelby and our team of Plant Specialists. Without membership you will not be able to receive monthly yCubes or have access to the membership rate for refills. As a result, you will have to maintain your Gardyn independently, without the support of your virtual assistant.

If your Wi-Fi goes down, your plants will not die. Gardyn is designed to keep the schedule even if with no access to Wi-Fi. However, without Wi-Fi you will not be able to communicate with your Gardyn through the Gardyn App. The app will show you a “Oh Shuck!” snail to let you know your device is not connected anymore.

No, not in the short term. Gardyn is designed to be very resilient. In particular, each plant has water and plant food in its pod for its own consumption. As a result, even a power outage of a couple of hours should have no negative impact on your plants. However, a longer power outage (more than 6-8 hours) could have some negative effects. Your app will notify you if your Gardyn is no longer connected to power.

We took great care to ensure that all of the components that make up a Gardyn are of the highest quality. However, if you find an issue with a particular part, we will send you a spare one at no charge as long as the warranty applies.
