Care & Harvest

💡Temperature: Prefers cooler temperatures (65-70°F).
⭕ Support: We suggest using our Plant Belt to support the plant as it matures.
✂️ Pruning: Requires minimal pruning. Snip away yellow or brown leaves if they appear. Check the roots monthly and trim any that are brown or extending past the yPod.
🥦 Harvest: To harvest the main head, wait until it reaches 1.5-2 inches wide (about the size of a large egg), then cut the stem below the head. The main head will start to spread out if left on the plant too long. The first harvest of side stems usually occurs 15-20 days after the main head harvest. Harvest side stems when they are 4-6 inches in length and 1-1.5-inch in diameter. Stems may be harvested multiple times depending on growing conditions. The leaves of the plant are also edible, and can be harvested by snipping the lower leaves just above the stem of the plant to let the upper leaves continue to grow. It is best to harvest leaves after you have harvested all of the stems.

Quick Facts

Broccoli is in the cabbage family and was first bred in the Ancient Roman Empire in the sixth century BC. The forms we know today were bred in Italy and came to the US via Italian immigrants in the 1800s. This miniature variety is also known as a sweet stem broccoli or broccolini, a plural from the Italian broccolo for “cabbage sprout” or “shoot” (as in a branch).

This variety is particularly tasty and grows a small head (about the size of a large egg) on an elongated stem while also producing many edible leaves and tender side stems. Side shoots grow even smaller heads, so it’s best to grow multiple yCubes at once for a larger harvest! Broccoli is a rich source of antioxidants, including vitamins C, K, and A.

Mini Broccoli is extremely versatile and adaptable to many preparations. This variety is entirely edible, so don’t leave its tender stems behind! Try it raw in salads or lightly sauteed in stir-fry. The leaves are also edible raw or cooked.
