Finding Happiness in Hydroponics with Gardyner Sophie Banton
If you asked Sophie Banton about gardening three years ago, she would have told you she’d never planted a single seed. Three years later her house is brimming with colorful fruits, vegetables, and flowers, and there’s no going back. When the pandemic hit, Sophie and her daughter Ari found themselves spending a lot more time indoors. So she sat down to think about what could brighten their space. Her first thought- plants. And not just houseplants, fruits and vegetables you can eat.
A Look Back at 2021
A Lot Happened in 2021. Nasa landed a rover on Mars (again!), the climate change conference took place in Glasgow, and pictures of a chilly Bernie Sanders with giant mittens went viral. A lot happened at Gardyn too. We started the year with one Gardyn, a small team, and big dreams for the year ahead. Our community expanded to 11,200 Gardyners with memberships, sharing recipes, stories, plants they’ve grown, tales of their pets, children, and meals together. Small acts of care added beauty and intentionality throughout the day and changed the way we thought about time.

From Plant to Plate, an Education in Food
One of Gardyn’s G3 Initiative recipients, Ocean View High School is teaching students how to cook for themselves by introducing new plants, talking about nutrition, and encouraging critical thinking about our food system. With three Gardyns full of flavorful produce and packed with nutrients, it’s a whole new way of eating, and one a lot more delicious than the bland diet many are used to.

Holiday Pinwheels with Sun-Dried Tomato, Herbs, and Goat Cheese
Make your guests feel at home with these gourmet (yet unpretentious) bites. Pre-made puff pastry takes out the work while the creamy combination of cheeses, rich tomato and herbs make for a sumptuous treat. Have fun mixing your own combination of Gardyn herbs and leave a sprig (or two) on the plate for a festive touch!
