What grade level do you recommend for Gardyn?

Gardyn is for every grade! We work with preschool, pre-kindergarten, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, charter schools, and higher education. We have also partnered with homeschools, technical schools, garden clubs, school green house projects, childcare centers, Montessori learning, and youth enrichment programs.

What school initiatives or subjects does Gardyn pair with?

Gardyn’s Hybriponics® works great with a variety of subject material and initiatives. For example, you can start by integrating Gardyn into your science, mathematics, environmental awareness, culinary, and agriculture programs. Or students can explore innovation through engineering, technology, and career education. No matter the subject, students enjoy the sensory elements of Gardyn – touch, taste, smell, sight, sound – it’s all there.

Can I grow a Gardyn without Kelby AI?

Yes! Kelby is our assistant meant to compliment your plant growth, though it is not a requirement. Kelby provides 24/7 monitoring, timelapse photos, vacation mode for seamless school breaks, and coaches your students every step of the way. For as long as you have Kelby AI, enjoy monthly shopping credits that will provide plants and plant food for your classroom.

What do I need to consider when placing my Gardyn?

Gardyn is designed for indoor growing only, and using only two square feet, the device is compact enough to fit any classroom. You’ll want to make sure your device has access to a power outlet, but you don’t need to worry about placing Gardyn near a window – the LED lights will take care of lighting for you! For maintenance, you’ll want access to a sink for monthly water tank refreshes and weekly top offs. If you select a bundle with Kelby, you’ll receive alerts when the water tank is getting low.

Can Gardyn take care of the plants when the school is closed?

With Kelby AI Assistant, you can turn on Vacation Mode which will take care of your Gardyn’s light and water schedule while you are away. This will also make sure your device conserves energy so that you don’t miss a harvest or worry about maintenance while you’re away.

Do you accept payments through a purchase order, card, or Affirm? How do I create an order with tax exemption status?

We offer several payment options, including a partnership with Affirm to allow flexible monthly installments. We accept purchase orders and card payments, and are happy to discuss any other payment needs you have. When you’re ready for a personalized quote, we include options to list your tax exemption status and budget so we can quickly meet your needs and get you growing with Gardyn.

How loud is the water pump?

The pump is quiet and will not disturb your classroom. There is a slight vibration in the water tank and you will hear a soothing sound of water flowing inside the columns. Gardyn’s default watering schedule is 3x/day for 5 minutes each over a 24hr period. During the first weeks of germination, the water schedule can be up to 15 minutes.

We typically recommend spacing the waterings out by at least 6 hours. Within the Gardyn app, modify the timing for both lights and water to suit your schedule – or let Kelby automate this for you. This means your Gardyn can run during or after school hours, whatever your preference.

I want to share Gardyn with an Educator, can I refer someone?

Can Gardyn grow large or vining plants?

Yes! Our columns vertical LED lights are strategically placed to allow large vining and fruiting plants that other systems cannot accommodate. For the best growth, we offer specialized trellis arms that support the largest and most fruitful plants. These snap on your Gardyn columns so your plants can continue to grow on either side of the column for added support, all the while maintaining a beautiful appearance.

I want to run experiments. Can I adjust the amount of water and light the Gardyn receives?

Yes! All lighting and water schedules are customizable and managed through our free app. If you have Kelby AI Assistant, you’ll just toggle the lighting and/or water to Manual, and run with your experiment!

Can I get a timelapse images automatically from Gardyn?

Yes! Every Gardyn comes equipped with two cameras, with one camera on each light bar. Every half hour, a still photo is taken and populates your “Live View” within the free app. When your Gardyn is powered by Kelby AI Assistant, over time you are able to view a time-lapse of these photos! Students find amazement and wonder in the time-lapse images. You can even share time-lapse images with other faculty, students’ caregivers, or anyone else! Rest assured, the cameras do not not record sound or take video.
