✂️ Pruning: These Sunflowers are naturally compact and require very little pruning. We recommend checking the roots monthly and trimming any that are brown or extending past the yPod. To encourage new flower bud development, remove dead flower heads (a.k.a. deadheading).
🔎 Plant Health: Aphids are a common pest, but you can use our prevention and treatment tricks to keep pests at bay!
🌻 Harvest: The flowers can be enjoyed from your Gardyn or used as a fresh-cut flowers. Harvest them by cutting the flower just before it blooms when the petals are close to opening. Once the flowers are spent, they should be removed so the plant can focus its energy on producing the next wave of blooms.
Sunflowers are native to North America and were first cultivated by Indigenous Americans over 4,500 years ago.
We hand selected this variety for your Gardyn! They will brighten your day, and your home! These sunflowers are the smallest existing sunflower variety to date. They are a pollen-less, seedless hybrid that are very adaptable. They quickly produce bright yellow flowers with a round black center. The plant can grow to be 10-12 inches tall with flowers that are 5-6 inches. If pruned correctly, Sunflowers can create 3-4 waves of flowers which means each plant can produce up to 20 flowers total!
Enjoy the summer vibes of this iconic flower any time of year! Given the pollen-free nature of this Sunflower, it will not produce seeds. Sunflower petals are edible, you can add them to your favorite dish for a delicious nutty flavor! Newly sprouted Sunflowers also make delicious microgreens!
