Peppers require pollination. Flowers develop 4-6 weeks after sprouting. Remove the first set of flower buds that grow to encourage root and foliage development. When the next flowers appear, hand-pollinate them by gently shaking the entire plant to replicate the effects of wind, or gently disturb the inside of blossoms with your finger or a small brush.

What do you need to grow jalapeños inside?

Lucky for us, these pepper plants are simple to grow inside and toss into any dish. To grow jalapeños inside, here’s what you’ll need:

Temperature

Just like most hot peppers (like habaneros), jalapenos flourish under mid-summer conditions ⎯ the hottest months of the year. Naturally, pepper plants prefer a warmer (hot) temperature when grown indoors in a space with direct sunlight. Good temperatures for indoor jalapeño plants is 70-85 degrees Fahrenheit. You can maintain this temperature with a heating pad or other tools, as well as moving the plant away from air vents during the summer. These measures will ensure optimal plant growth.

Pollination

Peppers are flowering plants, meaning they need pollination. You’ll see flowers about 4-6 weeks after sprouting. Remove that first set so that the root and foliage continue to grow. Once the next set of flowers pop up, you can gently shake the entire plant to simulate wind and hand-pollinate them. Alternatively, you can gently touch the inside of the flowers with your finger or a small brush.

Keep the soil moist and warm;

How To Care For Your Jalapeno Plants

After about 10-28 days, your jalapeño seedlings should be sprouted! Now it’s time to properly care for the produce and make sure it can grow to its full potential. Peppers are a pretty hardy plant, so it only takes a few steps to look after them:

STEP 1: Watering

When growing jalapeños inside, it’s best to use damp soil. It’s advised to water once every 1-2 days, depending on outside factors like heat and humidity. To know if your jalapeño plant needs water, you can check the top inch of the soil. If the top inch is dry, it needs to be watered. If the water is leaking out of the pot’s drainage holes, you’ve watered enough.

STEP 2: Fertilizing

Your jalapeños don’t need fertilizer, but it can’t hurt! In the warmer months, you can fertilize them every 3-4 weeks by dissolving fertilizer in water. This will help your pepper plants stay healthy and continue to flourish.

STEP 3: Pruning
